About me

I am an educator with eight years of experience in the K-12 realm that realized I delight in applying my expertise to the broader scope of learning & development. I am an ever-curious individual who loves to learn new technologies and has a knack for breaking down complex ideas into easy-to-digest concepts. Education has a broad wealth of transferrable skills that directly correlate to the field of instructional design, including project management, public speaking skills, ability to work in a fast-paced & deadline driven environment, an understanding of different learning theories, and ability to analyze the results of assessment and curate future learning objectives towards data-driven goals.

My corporate roles gave me experience in copywriting, design, marketing, and social media, and helped me to understand the process of appealing to the needs of stakeholders and clients. I have written and revised complicated architectural proposals that were once far outside of my comfort zone and I’ve conducted Q&A sessions with insurance underwriters so I could create content for their company blog. This is very akin to the process of conferring with SMEs.

The one area where many teachers turned instructional designers fall short is in the tech end of things, but this is also a major strength of mine. I have taught technology classes in a variety of areas (specifically Business Information Management, Multimedia, and Web Design), and I’ve been using Photoshop for my own graphic design interests and to propel a photography side-gig since its first use of Creative Suite back in 2003. In my spare time, I’ve been completing the Odin Project, an open-source curriculum for learning full-stack web development from the ground up.
